These Alberta train rides chug through colourful foliage in the fall

All aboard! The 2024 fall season is here and there are few places more beautiful than Wild Rose Country. Want to see the province from a whole new point of view? These enchanting train rides through Alberta are surrounded by colourful foliage, offer sweeping views, and will leave you breathless.

Happy chuggin’!

Alberta Prairie Railway

From heists to themed nights, The Alberta Prairie Railway has a little something for almost anyone – especially if you love trees, foliage and wildlife.

This fall, hop on a vintage steam train for a trip to Alberta’s Country Hideaway, a charming spot with rubber ducky races, hayrides, and a petting zoo.

Where: 4611 – 47 Avenue, Stettler, Alberta
Cost: $140+

The Rocky Mountaineer

Feeling spontaneous and really want to treat yourself? While you only have a short time (October 13th) to book and travel before they shut it down until April, the Rocky Mountaineer 2-day trip from Banff to Vancouver is spectacular.

See mountains, colourful trees, winding rivers, and the “desert-like landscapes of the BC interior.”

Where: Banff to Vancouver
Cost: $2,204

Fort Edmonton Park

Free with admission, Fort Edmonton’s 1919 Baldwin Steam train travels from the Park’s front station to the platform near the 1846 Fort and the new Indigenous Peoples Experience.

It’s short, but it’s sweet, and a favourite amongst the young and old.

Where: 7000 143 St NW, Edmonton, AB
Cost: $20+

Battle River Train Excursions

Whether you’re looking to entertain out-of-town guests, your kids, or are just looking for something exciting to do over a weekend, consider Battle River Train Excursions in Alberta. This charming railway offers themed rides including seasonal celebrations and murder mysteries this fall. Check it out!

Where: 5009 – 50th Avenue, Forestburg, Alberta
Cost: $130+

High Level Bridge Streetcar

From Edmonton’s Whyte Avenue, through the only tunnel ever built on a CPR mainline in Alberta, and across the High Level Bridge into the downtown area, the High Level Bridge Streetcar is historic and offers beautiful views of the city – but hurry!

It’ll only run Fridays through Sundays, up to (and including) Monday, October 14, 2024.

Where: 8408 Gateway Blvd NW
Cost: $8+

Heritage Park

Celebrating Alberta’s rich history, Heritage Park takes its guests way back in time. From old-timey shops, houses, workshops, and old carnival rides, this Calgary destination is a local favourite—especially if you like steam train rides!

Here, you can climb aboard, take in the sights, and enjoy the fresh air without leaving the park.

Where: 1900 Heritage Dr. S.W., Calgary
Cost: $34+
