Wild Rose Country is a magical place, with more trees, stunning views and experiences than we can count but this summer, we’re going to try! Want to come along? Visit, admire and enjoy some of the most incredible spots the province has to offer on Parks Day in Alberta and watch the mountains, lakes and rivers come to life.

Meant to celebrate Alberta’s natural beauty, conservation efforts and outdoor activities, the 93rd annual Parks Day will take place on July 15th and showcase beaches, picnic spots and hiking trails all over the map.

“Protecting over 27,600 square kilometres of the province, more than four times the size of Prince Edward Island, the extensive system of almost 500 provincial parks and protected areas ranges from conservation-focused to recreation-focused parks,” they write.

“From the hot, dry badlands, to vast boreal forests, to alpine tundra, Alberta Parks hold some of the most diverse, unique and breathtaking landscapes in the world.”

Luckily, for those who might be overwhelmed with choice – here are 10 parks that will be offering fun activities for the whole family this year!

ASPEN BEACH PROVINCIAL PARK

Fill in your passport to win a prize, enjoy some art in the park, participate in a relay race, a campfire sing-a-long or inspect aquatic critters. Aspen Beach will be FREE and fun to visit on the 15th.

DILLBERRY LAKE PROVINCIAL PARK

Sandcastle competitions, a guided hike with a ranger, a photo scavenger hunt and a colouring contest? Dillberry Lake Provincial Park will also be offering a day’s worth of fun activities this month.

COLD LAKE PROVINCIAL PARK

Get out and about! This Parks Day Cold Lake will have displays and will host games and a scavenger hunt! What could be better?

DINOSAUR PROVINCIAL PARK

Located in Alberta’s badlands, Dinosaur Provincial Park is truly one of a kind. This summer in celebration of Parks Day Alberta, participate in games, contests, colouring and a treasure hunt!

Whether you visit the ranger station, get your face painted or participate in the ‘take-a-hike’ challenge, you’re bound to have a blast at Miquelon Lake on the 15th. In addition to this – they’ll also be giving away prizes and hosting a big scavenger hunt!

Located in Kananaskis, Peter Lougheed Provincial Park is an Alberta favourite and this July you’ll be able to celebrate everything that makes it so special. On the 15th, check out the Elkwood Amphitheatre and enjoy a theatrical performance, guest presenters, a prop talk and a craft and art table!

YOUNG’S POINT PROVINCIAL PARK

It’s a park party! This year, check out Youn’gs Point and enjoy a scavenger hunt, nature activities, prizes and more.

SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL PROVINCIAL PARK

Looking for something to do all weekend long? Head to Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park on Friday and participate in a scavenger hunt Friday evening, then enjoy interactive family activities between 1 pm and 4 pm at the campground amphitheatre.

FIGURE EIGHT LAKE PROVINCIAL PARK

Up for a bit of a drive? This Parks Day head to Figure Eight Lake just outside peace river for games and activities, then take a dip in the water!
