Two Master Chef Canada stars are opening a restaurant in Toronto this summer

Yes, chef! Or should we say yes, Master Chef! The winner of Master Chef Canada season one and Master Chef Canada judge Alvin Leung are teaming up to bring a new Asian fine dining restaurant to downtown Toronto called aKin.

Here’s what we know.

There aren’t a ton of details surrounding the new restaurant but what we can tell you is that between these two famed chefs, the food is going to be amazing.

aKin recently posted a photo to social media that says “opening soon,” with the caption stating: “aKin means of similar nature or character which helps describe the food, as it will have elements that are similar to to what the dish is inspired by but modernized in our own way.”

The post continues, “aKin also means related by blood and although Alvin & Eric are not related by blood, they are essentially family now.”

“aKin’s K is capitalized because Kin is Eric’s grandfather’s first name and a huge inspiration to his cooking career.”

The restaurant is set to be right in the heart of downtown Toronto, as the Instagram profile states that the address is at 51 Colborne St.

So, when can we expect to check out aKin? According to the same social media page, the restaurant will open its doors for the upcoming summer 2024.

This isn’t their first rodeo, of course.

Eric Chong and Alvin Leung are partners at Toronto’s R&D restaurant, a Bib Gourmand-recognized Chinese spot the two opened together nine years ago.
Leung is also the chef owner of Bo Innovation, a two Michelin-starred fusion restaurant in Hong Kong.
This is going to be a must-try this summer so keep your eyes peeled for an official opening date, Toronto!
