Crystal clear: This Alberta swimming hole is fed by an underground mountain spring

There is no shortage of places to take a dip this summer, but if you’re looking for sand, green grass and stunning views, look no further than Alberta’s beautiful Quarry Lake.

Surrounded by mountains, trees, and (on a good day) blue sky, this magical swimming hole is located just outside of Canmore – a popular town with a ton of restaurants, shops, and hiking trails.

Originally a mining quarry, the aptly named area has since been reclaimed and is fed by an underground spring.

For this reason, come July and August, it’s practically perfect for paddleboarding or swimming.

Want to go for a dip? It is worth noting that there is no lifeguard on duty, so bring your water wings and keep your head up. In some areas, the water gets as deep as 100 meters.

Once you get tired of splashing around, you can also have a picnic, take a walk, or take photos of the majestic Ha Ling Peak and the wildlife.

The Lake is your oyster!

Pack a cooler, a towel, and your camera! You’re in for a fun-filled summer day.
