Ahoy! Or some crane-related version of it. For this week’s Airbnb pick, we’ve come across a uniquely converted crane that’s right on the water in Amsterdam. What’s more, it’s actually got a pretty nice design considering its humble beginnings.

The Airbnb is located on KNSM Island, which was in a past life an industrial harbour area in the east side of Amsterdam. These days, it’s primarily for residential use, with some other weird buildings and fun architecture on display. Plus, you’ve got shopping, museums, and restaurants nearby as well. Nothing really matches the crane on the head-turner front, though.

Overlooking the IJ River, the crane offers 3 stories of renovated living space for its guests. Between them, you’ll find a lounging area, a full kitchen, a full bathroom, and a bedroom with a double bed. It’s a little bit snug for a couple, but hey, you’re staying in a crane… what would you expect?

Luckily, the lack of space is made up for in the design. Light and airy with modern sensibilities, this Airbnb is a far cry from both hearty industrial vibes of kitschy 90s style. Instead, you’ll find hardwood floors, upscale appliances, and even space for both a classic soaker tub and a full shower to choose from. Not bad at all, whether your aim is relaxation or more of the get up and go variety.
