No… don’t talk to us… we’re on island time. Or at least we want to be, especially when we’ve got a windmill Airbnb in the Azores to think about. We kicked off this new series last week with a wild option in California… this one is a little more budget-friendly, but no less unique.

Haven’t heard of the Azores before? Not a problem. The archipelago consists of 9 volcanic islands basically in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. They’re an autonomous region of Portugal, which sits roughly 1,400 km east of them. Of the islands, it is Sao Miguel that is the largest, which is exactly where this lighthouse is located!

Even more specifically, it’s near Feteiras, a seaside town that’s extremely convenient for sightseeing. The town is only 20 minutes or so east of Ponta Delgada, which happens to be the capital of the entire Azores. Go 20 minutes north and you’ll arrive at Sete Cidades, an awe-inspiring volcanic crater lake. And 20 minutes west? Ponta da Ferraria, a naturally occuring hot pool that literally feeds into the ocean itself.

Getting to the windmill itself, it’s the perfect mix of quaint and stunning. Originally built in the 19th century, the interior has been updated for more comfortable living. You’ll find a kitchen and a living on the main floor, which is perfect for getting a cup of coffee in you before you start the day or a light meal once you return.

Upstairs though is where things truly shine. Offering 360 degree views, the space has been transformed into a bedroom, with a king-sized bed for extra comfort. Feel like kicking back outdoors? Don’t worry there either- just enjoy the patio space or explore your own private gardens.
