Big news coming out of Stanley Park! The Vancouver Aquarium has been bought by Herschend Enterprises. Don’t recognize the name? Neither did we. Turns out, this is the same company that owns Dollywood and the Harlem Globetrotters.

In case you missed it, the Vancouver Aquarium has had a rough year. With COVID affecting operations, there were even worries that they might have to close up forever. And, this is where Herschend Enterprises comes in. The American company bought the whole thing from the Ocean Wise Conservation Association, ensuring its future!

We agree it’s a bit scary that such a beloved place in our city will be changing hands. However, the same people will be in charge of the aquarium as before, so we’re hoping that they keep their conservation focus. Only time will tell, but we’re looking at the future optimistically here.

On top of all that, the new owners plan to hire back most of the staff that has been laid off. Oh, and they will also be donating 1% of profits to the Ocean Wise organization once they reopen. That’s some good news!
