Alberta’s comradery is something to admire. Since the pandemic hit in 2020, we’ve seen some amazing businesses and communities all over the city lending a hand to those who need it; and amazingly, while the worst of it may be behind us, people are still reaching out! This week, in hopes of providing public support, the YMCA opened the Kin Market Popup in Calgary, a pay-what-you-want pilot shop open to anyone and everyone who stops by.
In collaboration with the Leftovers Foundation and Fresh Routes, the YMCA’s newest initiative sells everything from fruits and vegetables to bread and eggs.
With carts set up at Shawnessy, as well as the Saddletowne locations, Kin Market is meant to empower all individuals “whether they’re a millionaire or have a quarter in your pocket.”
