One thing that’s probably not on your mind often is the amount of missing and/or stolen artworks in the world. And on that note, it’s pretty dang rare that they’re found. Recently, however, a missing panel by Seattle artist Jacob Lawrence has been recovered after 60 years.

If you know anything about Jacob Lawrence you know that he is widely regarded as one of the most acclaimed African American artists of the 20th century. And while we say Seattle artist, he was actually born in New Jersey but ended up spending the latter part of his life in Washington. He also taught at the University of Washington and has a gallery at the school named after him.

Now as for the piece, it’s a panel from the Struggle: From the History of the American People series. The piece was found in a New York City apartment and was passed down by family to the current owner. Even more, the piece will actually be coming to Seattle to join the current Jacob Lawrence show at the Seattle Art Museum. Talk about a happy ending!

So it’s a happy day for the art world as yet another lost piece is found. And an especially happy day for Seattle as we now all have the opportunity to view this spectacular piece. On that note, we highly recommend that you get tickets for the show which opens on March 5th.JTNDZGl2JTIwaWQlM0QlMjJtb2JpbGUtYWQtb25seSUyMiUzRSUwQSUzQyUyMS0tJTIwU2VhdHRsZSUyMC0lMjBNb2JpbGUlMjAtLSUzRSUwQSUzQ2lucyUyMGNsYXNzJTNEJTIyYWRzYnlnb29nbGUlMjIlMEElMjAlMjAlMjAlMjAlMjBzdHlsZSUzRCUyMmRpc3BsYXklM0FibG9jayUzQndpZHRoJTNBMzIwcHglM0JoZWlnaHQlM0E1MHB4JTNCJTIyJTBBJTIwJTIwJTIwJTIwJTIwZGF0YS1hZC1jbGllbnQlM0QlMjJjYS1wdWItNTUyMTg1Njk1NTQ5NzQ1NiUyMiUwQSUyMCUyMCUyMCUyMCUyMGRhdGEtYWQtc2xvdCUzRCUyMjE2MjcxNzI5NDclMjIlM0UlM0MlMkZpbnMlM0UlMEElM0MlMkZkaXYlM0U=
