We chatted about Quidditch yesterday, so it’s only fair we follow it up with this today! Next week, Edmonton will be the host of the World Dodgeball Championships, and we’re predicting it’ll be every bit as weird and wonderful as you could imagine.

Touted as “the largest competition in the history of the sport”, the international event will touch down in the city on August 28th, then will run straight through the weekend. There will be two versions played, cloth and foam, with both men’s and women’s divisions to watch out for.

This ain’t no Mickey Mouse roundup, either. Some 13 countries have confirmed their participation, from Canada and the US all the way to Sweden and Malaysia. Alongside the games, attendees will be able to check out workshops, seminars, and even an industry expo for vendors. You know, just in case you want to be on the cutting edge of dodgeball technology.

As for prices, you most certainly won’t break the bank if you decide to check it out. A mere $10 gets you access to all round-robin games, while $25 covers the cost of the Championship Weekend. If you’re tired of the usual summer sports fare, then this is a great alternative!
