Well, well, well, an Alberta-shot film does it again! Let Him Go, a newly released crime drama starring Hollywood legends Diane Lane and Kevin Costner had the highest-earning box office weekend of any film in 6 weeks – and we couldn’t be more proud.

Based on the 2013 novel of the same name, Let Him Gofollows a retired sheriff and his wife who set out to rescue their only grandchild from a dangerous family who is living off the grid somewhere in the Dakotas. It was shot primarily in the towns of Drumheller, Fort Macleod, and Didsbury.

Now, do we really think that this movie made over  $4.1 million so far simply because our province is ridiculously good looking? Heck no, but it must have had something to do with it, right? To be honest, we actually think it was a combination of great reviews, great acting, and the fact that people are more comfortable leaving the house now than they have been in forever.

As we’re sure you’re aware, there haven’t been many films released since the beginning of COVID – so it’s really no surprise that something new and fresh with a familiar face or two, has done so well.

No matter the reason, though – it’s pretty cool that so many people across North America have now seen Fort McLeod in all of its bare-bones beauty- despite not being able to travel.

Heck, we might check it out for ourselves. We’re all about supporting our neighbouring cities and towns…. also, movie theatre popcorn is to die for.
