Alberta is home to many tasty inventions, creative takes, and original eats, so when we heard that Airdrie bar, The Sorso Lounge, won an award as deliciously delightful as Mott’s Best Caesar in Town, we were just as excited as we were unsurprised.

Now, while our province has some incredible bars and restaurants many of which are recognized among some of the world’s most notable, this particular honour wouldn’t have been possible without the community – who outvoted over 255 other hopefuls.

With an overwhelming response from its fans, Sorso Lounge has been rewarded with the grand prize of $25,000 for its ‘suffering caesar’, a unique take on the beloved drink that (in addition to clamato juice) also features pineapple rum, black fermented garlic, mango nectar, and the chillingly-named bone marrow ice cubes.

The Morr’s Best Caesar in Town competition is a Canada-wide contest which calls on people from coast to coast to vote on their very favourite caeasar. Along with Sorso Lounge taking the top prize, nine other establishments across the country took home $10,000 for being runners-up.

Among them were two more Albertan competitors, The Firestone Bar and Restaurant in Lethbridge (Firestone Nashville Caesar) and Bukwildz in Sylvan Lake who was given a nod for its Emperors Tea Caesar.
