Alright, Calgary, we love ourselves some city views just as much as the next person, but nothing quite compares to gettin’ out of it every now and then and finding ourselves smack in the middle of nature. The only things to think about? What trail to hit, and what snacks to bring. 

With that in mind, we teamed up with Herbaland, Canada’s largest nutritional gummy manufacturer, to bring you a list of 6 incredible hikes you can do this summer near Calgary. As for snacks? Johnston Canyon to Ink Pots

Johnston Canyon is a trail that pays off from the start! With the incredible Lower Falls just 1.2 km’s from the trailhead, and followed shortly by the Upper Falls viewpoint. Beyond this, you’ll find yourself on a forested ridge leading to some pretty neat pools known as the Ink Pots. The water in these colorful mineral pools actually bubbles from deep below the Earth’s surface!

Distance: 11.4 km
Difficulty: Easy

Grotto Canyon

What do you get when you mix waterfalls, a cave, an Inukshuk garden, and tons of dogs on the trail? A perfect hike. The Grotto Canyon Trail is a perfect place to get those km’s in on a nice easy hike.

Distance: 7.1 km
Difficulty: Easy

Tunnel Mountain

Beginners to experienced hikers alike, Tunnel Mountain is a seriously good spot to take in some views. While you’ll get plenty of spots to stop for a photo-op or snack break along the way, the peak offers up views of glacier lakes, Sulphur Mountain, and Mount Rundle.

Chester Lake

Remember when we told you to bring snacks? Yeah, you’re going to wanna bring some to Chester Lake! The end of this hike will reward you with a waterfall spot that we’re positive you will want to hangout by and take it in. Waterfall picnic? Sign us up.

Difficulty: Moderate

Grassi Lakes

City folk, rejoice! Grassi Lakes is one of those trails that is known and loved by many, for good reason! Taking in those breathtaking views from the top doesn’t require any special skill set or gear. We all need a leisurely hike now and then. 

Where: Ken Richie Way off Highway 742
Distance: 3.2 KM
Difficulty: Easy

Tent Ridge

Think we were gonna let you off easy?! While this trail is the most difficult on our list, there’s a reason it’s rated so highly by hikers. So, if you’re up for a challenge, Tent Ridge is not one to sleep on! With terrain ranging from forests, meadows, wildflowers and some narrow and exposed ridges, this hike will certainly not leave you bored. Plus, you’ll be served with some insanely beautiful panoramic views of Kananaskis, Spray Lakes, and even the southeastern tip of Banff National Park.

Distance: 10km
Difficulty: Difficult
