The holidays are here, but there are a few things you should know before you warm up the car or hit the transit line. Whether you need a bottle of wine, or just want to hit the town, here is what will be open and closed on Christmas Day in Calgary.

Open

Lake Louise Ski Resort

Known for having a wide variety of terrain great for all skill levels, The Lake Louise Ski Resort will be open on Christmas Day this year and you can ski with Santa Claus.

Calgary Transit

Neet to get from one side of the city to the other? Calgary Transit will operate on a Sunday level of service.

Movie Theatres

Hoping to catch a movie on Christmas Day? Landmark Cinema and Cineplex theatres will all be open on Wednesday!

Closed

Malls

Need to do some last-minute shopping? You’ll have to go elsewhere! Southcentre Mall, CrossIron MillsCF Chinook Centre, CF Market Mall and The CORE Shopping Centre will be closed on Dec. 25.

The Calgary Zoo

If you were hoping to see the ZOOLIGHTS on the 25, your trip has to wait a day. According to their website, The Calgary Zoo will not be open for Christmas Day.

Costco, Superstore, Sobeys and CO-OP

Plan ahead! This year, most grocery stores and their affiliated liquor shops listed above will be unshoppable on Dec. 25.

The Calgary Tower

Hoping to do some sightseeing with your out-of-town guests on Christmas Day? Sorry, folks! The Calgary Tower will also be closed on the 25.

City Owned Recreational Facilities and Leisure Centres

This Christmas most city-owned pools, skating rinks and fitness/rec centres, will be closed in lieu of the Stat holiday.

Post Offices

Whether it’s an Amazon return or an invitation – it’ll have to wait! This Wednesday (and every stat holiday) the post office will be closed.
