You’ve probably noticed something different about the Seattle waterfront – and it’s about the become the city’s nefwest landmark! The new Overlook Walk is set to open this week, and there’s a family-friendly opening ceremony you can attend.

Overlook Walk is just the first installment in a revitalized Seattle waterfront, with the full Waterfront Park set to open later in 2025. The walk will serve as the first-ever direct connection between Pike Place Market and the waterfront – but it’s more than just a bridge.

The new Overlook is expected to become an iconic Seattle landmark, thanks to its stunning 360° views of the city, green-scaping, impressive Salish Steps, and Bluff Walk which also has a small playground for kids to enjoy.

What to expect at the opening

Overlook Walk will be officially open to the public at 4:30 PM on Friday, October 4th. The opening day celebration will be a big, family-friendly event with food, music, entertainment, arts and crafts, and fire pits for when the evening turns chilly. Best of all, it is free to attend!

Some of the live performances include music by KNKX’s DJ Abe Beeson along with stilt walkers and roaming characters.

If you head across Overlook Walk and down the Salish Steps to Pier 62, you’ll find even more activities. Take your pick from beloved local food trucks like Whateke, Canela, and Spooky Dogs. There will also be games to show off your competitive side like soccer, corn-hole, and a life-sized chess set.

Overlook Walk is all about discovering new ways to connect with the city. Take your kids to enjoy the Bluff Walk playgrounds, or take a seat on the Salish Steps during your lunch break and enjoy views of the ocean. The grand opening of Waterfront Park is set for the spring of 2025, so this is only the beginning!
