5 museums you can always visit for free in Seattle

If you’re in need of a little inspiration or want to learn something new, heading to a local museum is always a good choice. A museum is always a good idea, especially if they don’t cost a thing to visit! That’s why we love these 5 Seattle museums that are always free!
Frye Art Museum
The Frye Art Museum is located on First Hill and is home to an impressive permanent collection as well as several curated shows each year. It’s one of Seattle’s best places to see both older and contemporary art and it’s always free!
Hours: Wednesday-Sunday 11 AM-5 PM

Klondike Gold Rush Museum
When you think of gold you likely think of California and Alaska as well as the Yukon in Canada. What you may not know is that the Gold Rush was actually of huge economic benefit to our city. In fact, there’s a whole museum dedicated to it and it’s totally free.
Hours: Wednesday-Sunday 10 AM-5 PM

Olympic Sculpture Park
The Olympic Sculpture Park is where art meets getting outdoors. Its location along Elliott Bay makes it a great place to walk with friends while seeing art by both local and international artists.
Hours: Opens daily 30 minutes prior to sunrise and closes 30 minutes after sunset
Where: 2901 Western Avenue
The Duwamish Longhouse and Cultural Center
The Duwamish Longhouse and Cultural Center (DLCC) project began in the 1990s, and it stands today as a space to “revitalize our culture and preserve our living heritage,” according to the DLCC. The Duwamish Longhouse is all about the “social, cultural, and economic survival of Seattle Washington’s aboriginal Duwamish Tribe.”
Hours: Tuesday-Sunday 10 AM-5 PM

Center for Wooden Boats
Seattle is surrounded by water making it a prime city for a boat-centric museum. The Center for Wooden Boats describes itself as a “living museum.” It’s all about giving the public access to northwest maritime heritage through “education, interpretation, and hands-on experience.”
Hours: Wednesday-Friday 12 PM-7 PM, Saturday & Sunday 10 AM-6 PM
Where: 1010 Valley Street
And to note, other museums in the city do offer free access, generally the first Thursday of each month. Those museums include The Seattle Art Museum and the Museum of Flight.
