Well, we know that we have some fantastic Italian spots, but we didn’t think any of them would make the list of the World’s Best Italian Restaurants. But, according to the new ratings from 50 Top Italy, 2 Canadians restaurants are amongst the best in the world. You can colour us surprised and impressed. Let’s check ’em out.
Toronto’s Don Alfonso 1890 was actually named the 2nd best Italian restaurant worldwide, beating out restaurants from New York, Tokyo, and Hong Kong. Don Alfonso is the joint venture from Michelin starred chefsĀ Alfonso and Ernesto Iaccarino and is the first North American location for the concept. We guess they really brought the heat in Canada.

Meanwhile, Cioppino’s Grill & Enoteca nabbed the 32nd spot. This Vancouver fine-dining institution has been delighting guests for some two decades. It provides the gold standard for Italian dining in Vancouver, even in a highly competitive setting. Basically, this latest nod is the icing on a very tasty cake.
That said, we think Canada’s got some sleepers across the country. Sure, they might not have made the list, but that definitely doesn’t stop us from pulling up a chair every time we’re craving pasta.
