Happy Thursday, Vancouver! We’ve got a relatively rainy weekend of weather to look forward to, but we’re not going to let it rain on our parade. Enjoy yourselves indoors, but definitely keep a few outdoor options on standby, just in case things clear up a little.

Here are 10 of the best things to do this weekend in and around Vancouver.

Create! Arts Festival

Tired of going to arts fests and only being able to look at the art? The Eastside Arts Society has dreamt up a solution for you! This weekend, local artists around the city are hosting (very reasonably priced) workshops teaching everything from woodblock printing to ceramics. And yes, you get to keep what you make!

When: Saturday, August 21st and Sunday, August 22nd
Where: Locations around Vancouver
Cost: $10-$25 per workshop

Vancouver Mural Fest

Of course, this is also the final weekend of something that’s more or less illegal to do without the city’s blessing. The Vancouver Mural Fest has taken over 11 different neighbourhoods for the past couple of weeks, and things are winding down this weekend. Go on an impromptu tour of all the new pieces!

When: Ends Sunday, August 22nd
Where: 2105 Main Street
Cost: Varies per event

PNE Fair 2021

That’s right folks- the PNE Fair is back this weekend! This iconic experience is pretty much the best way to enjoy Playland at the PNE, combining the already thrilling rides with live music and entertainment. Come on, how can you watch a SuperDogs show and not have a smile on your face?

When: Starts Saturday, August 21st
Where: 2901 E Hastings Street
Cost: $15 for adults, $12 for children and seniors

Visit a new restaurant in the city

Delara, a new Persian restaurant located in Kits, officially opened this week! With the creator/head chef coming from years spent at Farmer’s Apprentice and L’Abattoir, this spot is sure to become a must-visit before the end of summer. So, why not check it out this weekend!

When: Open throughout the weekend
Where: 2272 West 4th Avenue

Welcome back the Whitecaps

After over 500 days without a true ‘home game’, the Vancouver Whitecaps return to BC Place this weekend! And to celebrate, they’re offering a free t-shirt to every fan at the game. And of course, expect some new rules and regulations to help keep everyone safe.

When: Saturday, August 21st
Where: 777 Pacific Boulevard
Cost: $35+

Channel your inner Happy Gilmore

Maybe you’re more into playing sports than watching. Hey, no problem, because we found out this week that you can play all of the golf courses that were featured in the iconic movie Happy Gilmore. From messing around at the pitch n’ putt to getting in a fistfight with Bob Barker on the side of a mountain, you’ve got options!

Relax a little bit

Looking to just cool it? We were in the same boat earlier this week, so we rounded up some of our top spots in the city for rest and relaxation. This will come in handy rain or shine, since we’ve featured both indoor and outdoor spots that are sure to have you breathing easier.

Corpse Flower Bloom

Early warning that tickets might have already sold out, but Bloedel Conservatory’s corpse flower has started blooming! For the next day or two, you’ll be treated to a wonderfully grotesque experience, that can only come from a beautiful, big flower that smells downright awful.

When: Happening right now!
Where: 4600 Cambie Street
Cost: $7.05

Vancouver Aquarium

After almost a year of complete closure, the Vancouver Aquarium has reopened! Expect all the exhibits you know and love, plus a couple of new options, like the Marine Mammal Rescue exhibit and a state-of-the-art 4D theatre.

When: Now open!
Where: 845 Avison Way
Cost: $42 for GA

The Magic Hour

For a little more personal experience, the Presentation House Theatre in North Van has opened a new immersive, walk-through show. Following a loose narrative, guests get to explore the entire theatre space, which has been re-done to resemble an admittedly very weird house.

When: Ends Sunday, August 22nd
Where: 333 Chesterfield Ave, North Vancouver
Cost: $27 per person

That’s what we’ve got in mind for this weekend, Vancouver! Have fun out there and stay safe!
