Happy Thursday, folks! It’s been a better than expected week of weather in Edmonton, and we’re hoping that trend continues into the weekend. If you’re looking for things to do, well friend, you’ve come to the right place, because that’s what we’re here for!

Here’s our list of things to do around Edmonton this weekend.

HSBC CANADA SEVENS

One of the biggest things to look forward to this weekend is also arriving for the first time ever! Following years of sold-out crowds in Vancouver, the HSBC Rugby Sevens have decided to show Edmonton some love. This 2-day event is action-packed, offering multiple games per day featuring some of the best players in the world. In summary- you don’t even have to know about rugby to know this is worth it.

When: September 25th and 26th
Where: 11000 Stadium Road
Cost: $106.20+

GRAB SOME BRUNCH

After years of delighting Calgary diners, the Bro’Kin Yolk has landed in Edmonton! This delicious brunch spot specializes in the more savoury sides of our favourite meal of the week, but also has more than enough options for the sweet-tooths out there.

When: Open throughout the weekend
Where: 1641 102 St. NW,  Edmonton, AB T6N 0B1

VISIT A GHOST TOWN

No word of a lie, one of our favourite coffee table books ever is called Praire Gothic. If you’re trying to see the abandoned side of the prairies, we’ve rounded up some of the most stunning (and most spooky) ghost towns around Alberta, and hoo boy, do we have some great options to choose from.

ROSSDALE POWER PLANT TOUR

We know, this might not be as exciting as some of the other options on this list. But, this is your chance to check out a historic landmark in the city, while learning about its history at the same time! What’s more, this is the last weekend to explore it.

When: Until Sunday, September 26th
Where: 10155 96 Avenue NW
Cost: $27.30

CHECK OUT A HAUNTED HOUSE

Scary season is upon us! The super-popular Deadmonton Haunted House returns this week, with not one but two super scary experiences. Warped is their main attraction, and offers a twisted look at Area 51, while Dusk is an outdoor experience inspired by a New Orleans cemetery haunt.

When: Starts Friday, September 24th
Where: 7031 Gateway Boulevard
Cost: $29.99+

HEAD TO THE THEATRE

Feeling a little more culture this week? You’ll be happy to know that a new show is on at the Citadel Theatre! The Garneau Block is an adaptation of the book written by Todd Babbiak, and is a look at the ‘knowable citizens’ of the city told through various stories.

When: Showtimes throughout the weekend
Where: 9828 101 A Avenue
Cost: Varies

IMAGINE VAN GOGH

For a lot of culture, and on a massive scale, Imagine Van Gogh is the answer. This immersive exhibition shows off over 200 of the iconic artist’s works using state-of-the-art technology. No, you won’t actually get to see The Starry Night in person, but this is a great alternative to flying to New York about it.

When: Open until Sunday, September 26th
Where: 7515 118 Avenue NW
Cost: $41.61 and up for GA

SOLVE THE EDMONTON CORN MAZE

When the leaves start to change colour, that’s when you know it’s time to visit the ol’ corn maze. It’s like the perfect early fall activity, and we’ve got perfect early fall weather to enjoy it! Ask your friends, we’re sure at least one of them is ready to frolic in a field this weekend.

When: Open throughout the weekend
Where: 26171 Garden Valley Road, Spruce Grove
Cost: $13.50+ for GA

DRIVE OUT TO THE GARDEN

On a similar note, we think that the U of A Botanic Garden is best enjoyed during the spring or the fall. For fall visits, we get to see the leaves turn magical shades of orange and red, and the weather can be perfect for a leisurely stroll. Need a reason to visit? Keep in mind the Fall Family Festival‘s ongoing events!

When: Open throughout the weekend
Where: Parkland County, Alberta
Cost: $18.75 for GA

COMMUNE WITH A COUPLE OF BISON

To complete the outdoor trio, we love a late summer/early fall trip out to Elk Island. Of course, that weekend walk is made all the sweeter if you actually get to see some bison up close and personal, but either way, it’s a great time. After all, they’re just 1 of hundreds of species living in the park!

When: Open throughout September
Where: 54401 Range Road 203, Fort Saskatchewan
Cost: $7.90 for admissions

That’s our roundup for this weekend, Edmonton! Enjoy yourselves and stay safe out there!
