The weekend is here, Edmonton! And with any luck, it’ll be the last we see of insanely low temperatures for a while. We’re not going to lie to you- this weekend, we’re thinking it’s best to bide our time with some indoor activities, and leave the outdoor options for the coming weeks. Of course, we’ve got a couple choices for those of you looking to brave the cold.

Here are 10 of the best things to do in Edmonton this weekend.

HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS

Here’s something completely different for the sports fans out there! At the time of writing, the Harlem Globetrotters are still planning to swing by Edmonton to show off their insane basketball skills. We hate to say it, but we’d be just as pumped to see them live as an actual NBA game.

When: Sunday, January 9th
Where: 10220 104 Avenue NW
Cost: $26+

MUTTART CONSERVATORY

If, like us, you’re not feeling winter’s chilly embrace, remember that the Muttart Conservatory is back in action! Take a trip to this incredible indoor garden in the city, which we admit might double as one of our favourite buildings in the city.

When: Open throughout the weekend
Where: 9626 96a Street NW
Tickets: $14.95 for GA

ART GALLERY OF ALBERTA

It’s never a bad time to hit up the AGA, but right now is particularly nice. There are a whopping 7 different exhibitions and installations to check out, in addition to the permanent collection. Know what that means? Hours of cultured fun!

When: Open Wednesday to Sunday
Where: 2 Sir Winston Churchill Square
Cost: $14

ROYAL ALBERTA MUSEUM

On the flipside, one exhibition in particular at the RAM has caught our eyes in a big way. The Abandoned Alberta exhibition is a showcase of Alberta’s haunting abandoned buildings, which we must admit we think is super cool to look at.

When: Open Wednesday to Sunday
Where: 9810 103a Avenue NW
Cost: $21

ALBERTA AVIATION MUSEUM

Speaking of great museums to check out, we haven’t mentioned the Alberta Aviation Museum in quite a while! Since most of us aren’t going to be hopping on planes anytime soon, why not reminisce about decades past in the air? You know, back when it was cool to smoke on planes.

When: Open throughout the weekend
Where: 11410 Kingsway NW
Cost: $15

LASER FLOYD: DARK SIDE OF THE MOON

Is a laser show a piece of art? We’re going to go ahead and say yes. Every weekend, the Telus World of Science hosts a nostalgic (but still stunning) laser show set to, really, the best band for it- Pink Floyd. Whether you’ve been a fan of their music for years, or want to try something new, this is a great option.

When: Fridays and Saturdays throughout January
Where: 11211 142 Street NW
Cost: $14.95 for GA

HIT A GOLF SIMULATOR

Speaking of indoor options, this one is all about economies of scale. Sure, renting out a room at Evolution Golf might cost up to $45/hr, but go there with a couple of friends and slash those prices! What’s more, we won’t hesitate to say that golf simulators are the best way to get your ‘beginner’ (aka haven’t been playing for a decade) friends into the sport.

When: Open throughout the weekend
Where: Multiple locations
Cost: $35+/hour

OR HOP IN A GO KART

For those looking for a little more of a thrill this weekend, you might want to check out Drive! at West Edmonton Mall. As North America’s only 3-level indoor track, this high octane (except electric, so maybe voltage?) option will have you begging for one more race time after time.

When: Open throughout the weekend
Where: 8882 170 Street NW
Cost: $29+

LUMINARIA

Assuming it’s not extended due to the recent closures, this is the last weekend to check out Luminaria at the U of A Botanic Garden! If it does open, make sure to bundle up before you go, because we’re in for a downright chilly weekend of weather.

When: Slated to end Sunday, January 9th
Where: 51227 AB-60, Spruce Grove
Tickets: $21 for GA

VICTORIA PARK ICEWAY

Of course, our top pick for those looking to do a little skating this week is the Victoria Park Iceway. Just make sure you bundle up, and maybe have, oh we don’t know, like 4 litres of hot chocolate sitting in a thermos for when you get back to your car.

When: Open throughout the weekend
Where: 12030 River Valley Road NW
Cost: Free

Those are out top picks for this weekend! Stay safe, stay warm, and go have some fun!
