The end of the long weekend is always a tough thing to face. But, we’re hoping to make it that much easier, with some great things to look forward to this week in Edmonton! After all, we’ve got options, so why not make the most of them?
Here are 10 of the best things to do in Edmonton this week.
SILVER SKATE FESTIVAL
It’s your last chance to check out this amazing winter festival in Edmonton! Silver Skate has a little bit of everything, from art to music to outdoor activities, and each and every one of them is fun.
When: Ends Monday, February 21st
Where: Hawrelak Park
Cost: Varies
RED
Speaking of some artsy options, how about a little play about an artist? The Grindstone Theatre is showing ‘Red’, a play about artist Mark Rothko as he tries to create some murals for the Four Seasons brand. Honestly, pretty interesting premise if you’re familiar with his work.
When: Thursday, February 24th
Where: 10019 81 Avenue NW
Cost: $22.71+
SWEET TREATS & LATTE FESTIVAL
This food and drink festival in Old Strathcona is a great way to enjoy Edmonton’s culinary scene. We’re the first to admit that we’ve used lattes, hot chocolate and baked goods to eat (and drink) our emotions more than a few times this winter.
When: On throughout the week
Where: Around Old Strathcona
BEETHOVEN’S FIFTH
Feeling fancy? There’s no better way to enjoy it than with a little symphony orchestra. The ESO will be performing Beethoven’s Fifth this weekend, kicking things off with a Friday night concert.
When: Friday, February 25th
Where: 4 Sir Winston Churchill Square Northwest
Cost: $45.20+
ART GALLERY OF ALBERTA
The AGA got not one, but two new exhibits this weekend! The artist Byron Samson (Mistikonâpêw) does incredible portraits of Indigenous leaders, while Maud Lewis is recognized as one of the most prominent folk artists in Canadian history. Plus, admission to the gallery will be free on Thursday night.
When: Open Wednesday to Sunday
Where: 2 Sir Winston Churchill Square
Cost: $14
CANADIAN BIRKIE SKI FESTIVAL
The Birkebeiner Ski Festival is for cross country skiers, sure, but it has a very fun twist, as the most devoted of the events is a 55km long marathon with a 5.5kg weight strapped to your back (to symbolize a child, of course!)
When: On throughout the week
Where: Locations vary
Cost: Varies
GO SKATING
The ice rinks are calling, and we must go! From small and lesser-known spots to some of the most popular skating areas around, Edmonton is full of incredible options, and we’re going to make the most of them every chance we get!
When: Open throughout the week
Where: All around Edmonton
HIT A GOLF SIMULATOR
On the other hand, those hoping for some inside fun might want to check this option out. We won’t hesitate to say that golf simulators are the best way to get your ‘beginner’ (aka haven’t been playing for a decade) friends into the sport.
When: Open throughout the week
Where: Multiple locations
Cost: $35+/hour
HOP IN A GO KART
Continuing on the indoor activity line, there’s Drive! at West Edmonton Mall. As North America’s only 3-level indoor track, this high octane (except electric, so maybe voltage?) option will have you begging for one more race time after time.
When: Open throughout the week
Where: 8882 170 Street NW
Cost: $29+
RABBIT HILL
One big draw of Rabbit Hill? With over 40 acres when fully open, the hill is actually the largest to check out in the city. That means more runs and a pretty big terrain park to check out, just in case you’re trying to push yourself to be more extreme this winter. As for us? We’re happy cruising down the groomers.
When: Open throughout the week
Where: 20715 57 Avenue SW
Cost: Varies
Those are our picks for this week, folks!
