Patio season might be coming to a close soon, but happy hour is year-round. And if you’re like us, we love any chance we get to try out a new restaurant or bar – and that coveted 3 to 6 pm is a great time to do it. Indulge in discounted drinks and tasty eats around the city – and bring some friends along for the ride. Here are 12 amazing spots to start with!

Como? Taperia

We’re kicking things off with one of our favourite spots to grab a drink in the city – Como Taperia. And while dinners here are fantastic, we have to hand it to them for making happy hour memorable. In addition to great deals on authentic drinks (think vermouth and cava), various tapas dishes are also offered free of charge for those seated at the bar.

Oh, and did we mention that all bottled wine is 40% off?? Pro tip: Plan to arrive right before 4 pm to take advantage of their brief (but worth it) happy hour (last call is at 4:45).

Hail Mary’s

While they can’t turn water into wine, they have plenty of delicious cocktails and Mary’s pilsner (20 oz for $8) to make up for it. And a funky “hell versus heaven” theme going on, as the name suggests. Hail Mary’s is one of those bars that you discover spontaneously on a night out, and it instantly becomes your new fave bar. Plus, they have a later happy hour from 5 to 7 pm – perfect for the after-work crowd.

Di Beppe Caffe has been a great addition to the Gastown neighbourhood for some time now, in part because of the great happy hour deals. On warmer days, swing by for classic cocktails like a negroni or an Aperol Spritz, while munching on Italian antipasti dishes.

We couldn’t make a list of happy hours and not include the all-day food happy hour menu at Narrow! Pop on over the corner of Main and East 2nd for a speakeasy experience like no other – accompanied by $4 burritos, $3 tacos, and specialty cocktails (normally around $15) for $9.50. Check out their full happy hour menu below for all of their offerings.

Here we are again with the sibling restaurant thing. While Hawksworth dominates fine dining, Nightingale brings that same quality to the happy hour world. No seriously – you can get a full wood-fired pizza for $15 and a sleeve of Main Street brand beer for $5. That’s seriously competitive pricing and just a taste of the menu.

We couldn’t write a guide to happy hour and forget about Mexican cuisine. We’re major fans of La Mezcaleria, especially since they offer single-servings of their unbelievably decadent queso fundido dish. Pair one of those with a margarita or two, and you’ll be in heaven.

Joe Fortes

While they don’t have the best drink deals in the city, Joe Forte’s does have a very competitive food menu. Who would have thought that at one of Vancouver’s most prestigious restaurants you could get oysters for $1.50? Not us, that’s for sure. If you’ve ever wanted to try out Joe Fortes but don’t want to break the bank – this may be your opportunity.
