Banff Adventures Grotto Tour is maybe the most unique (and also the most terrifying) way to experience Alberta’s Rockies. Underground might be a unique way to explore the Rockies, but horseback is undeniably a traditional one. Banff Adventures also runs a variety of tours exploring the area, from quick 1 hour loops to full half-day adventures, you’re sure to find something that works.

Maybe a wildlife tour is more your speed than a sightseeing one. Well, the rugged terrain in Jasper National Park is one of the best places in the province to go looking! This evening wildlife tour is in a vehicle, and is guided by a local expert who plans each route based on seasonal wildlife movements. We guess it works- they’ve got a 95% success rate!

The Columbia Icefield Skywalk is a triple threat of fun. The floating, see-through platform is sure to raise the heart rate of even the most seasoned adventures, the elevated provides stunning vistas of the valley and icefield, and chances are high you’ll spot a little wildlife during your visit!

Like the cave tour, the Jasper Planetarium is for those looking for a more unique experience in the Rockies. During your visit, you’ll get an interactive, guided tour of the most powerful telescopes in the North American (not just Canadian!) Rockies. Then, if the skies are clear, check out stunning views of the night sky in real-time, courtesy of 4K monitors depicting what the telescopes are seeing.

Of course, we couldn’t finish this list without mentioning our own favourite summer mountain activity- golfing. There are a wide variety of courses all along the Rockies, but in the south, it’s hard to beat the value of the Kananaskis Country Golf Course. With 36 holes to play, this is one that has Albertans coming back year after year (and the resident bonus doesn’t hurt, either).

When: Slated to open May 13th
Where: 1 Lorette Drive, Kananaskis
Cost: $98 + for Alberta residents

If you noticed, we tried to balance things out between the north and south areas in the province. So, we think the fitting golf pick here is to treat yourself and try Jasper. The intimating course is frequently ranked amongst the best in the world, and comes with the price tag to match. For the avid golfer though, this is a bucket list name,
