This new Toronto hotel was just named one of the best in the world

Toronto’s new eco-luxury hotel just got some major recognition. Every year, Condé Nast Traveler releases a Hot List of the best new hotels in the world, and in its 26th edition, Toronto’s 1 Hotel made the cut.

Editors at all seven editions around the globe scouted and hand-selected the chosen hotels, of which there are 96 worldwide.

1 Hotel was the only accommodation in Canada included in the list. Described as an exception to Toronto’s typical “unremittingly corporate or standard bohemian-chic” hotels, this place is an urban oasis where sustainability meets luxury.

Condé Nast Traveler calls out its “biophilic design, impressive conservation programs, and real community-mindedness,” but doesn’t fail to mention its luxe amenities, including the rooftop pool with waterside service, and Veuve Clicquot champagne in the minibar.

This isn’t the first time that 1 Hotel Toronto has been named in a ranking since it opened in August 2021. Toronto was recently ranked third among cities with the most sustainable hotels, and 1 Hotel is a key factor.

1 Hotel is described in the ranking as “Canada’s first mission-driven hotel,” which “promises to divert over 85% of waste from landfills and it has an on-site composter to turn organic waste into reusable soil.”

It’s also beautiful in its design, featuring tons of greenery and locally-sourced natural materials to create “a city escape where guests can connect with nature,” the hotel says.

There are also 5 “dining concepts” to experience at this hotel, including an indoor-outdoor restaurant, a cocktail lounge in the lobby, an outdoor garden venue called The Garden Pavillion, and two more restaurants — Harriet Toronto and Canada’s first Casa Madera.

As with any luxury hotel, the price is quite steep at $450 per night. However, the heated floors, organic bath products, yoga mats, in-room water filtration systems, and skyline views
