Take a step into the Edmonton Valley Zoo this winter for a festival of a lifetime!
For the 13th year, the Edmonton Valley Zoo will be hosting Zoominescence, presented by The King’s University. This festival opens up the zoo during the colder months for a spectacular exhibition of artistic light installations for guests of all ages to admire and enjoy. It’s a unique and special way to experience the zoo, and it’s ready for you to visit this winter.
Zoominesence will be running select days starting Dec. 5 through Jan. 4. You can check out the specific days on the Zoominesence website, but it’s open most days through December, sans Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
There will be over 125 art installations featured at Zoominescence, with both new artists from the 2025 Call to Artists competition and returning artists from last year.
Featured this year at Zoominescence is art like Eric Nocente’s Night Flight, an LED-lit sculpture paying homage to the nocturnal North American Barn Owl. Or, you might be interested in the Hidden Giants by Elias Seemann, which highlights the Lake Sturgeon, Alberta’s largest and oldest fish.
Returning installations include the interactive Leapfrog, where visitors are encouraged to pose with the sculpture. In this installation, you’re invited to join in Trew Facks’s interactive game of leapfrog. There’s also Stripes in the Shadows, drawing inspiration from the Grevy’s zebra.
No matter what, there will be an installation that will blow you away. These stunning lights will take you on a journey through the zoo like no other.
Tickets are already on sale, so get ready to grab your spot. Keep in mind that the Zoominescence evening hours will be the only times the zoo is open during this time period.
Don’t miss out on this winter wonderland.
