This week, we thought we’d take a breather from unique AirBnbs and instead look at the Kitoki Inn, which is getting ready to officially open on Bowen Island. This brand new retreat is both close to home and, seemingly, a world away. Here’s what you can expect!

Kitoki Inn is a collection of three self-contained cabins, backing onto a forested area. Each cabin is outfitted with a queen-sized bed, a built-in rainshower, and a kitchenette. And if you need evening activities, don’t worry, since there’s free Wi-Fi and a shared library of books, games and puzzles.

Maybe the biggest draw, though, is the nearby bathhouse inspired by traditional Japanese onsen (hot springs). Overlooking the forest, this open-air spa features a hot-tub, a hydrotherapy shower, and an outdoor garden near the wood-burning fire pit.

Done in cedar and with Japanese minimalism in mind, Kitoki Inn should be a fantastic blend of design and function. While the cabins and the bathhouse are beautiful, guests are encouraged to explore the island’s hiking trails and lakes, or the nearby town (which is a mere 1.5km away).

Bookings are pretty much full throughout the fall, but we see this as more of a winter getaway anyways. After all, it would be much more fun to enjoy a gorgeous outdoor hot tub when it’s not absolutely scorching out already. That’s just our opinion, though.
