It’s a big wide world, but we’ve got it pretty good in Wild Rose Country.

The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has released its list of the world’s most liveable cities for 2024 and one Alberta spot has cracked the top 10!

A global index that details 173 cities from sea to shining sea, everything from infrastructure and education to culture, environment, stability and healthcare were taken into account – but it’s far more detailed than that.

Within each category, there are 30 indicators that help to reveal how comfortable each city is to live in, and among the best of them? Calgary, Alberta.

“I’m proud to share that Calgary has risen to the fifth most livable city in the world and is the most livable city in North America, as per the Economist Intelligence Unit’s annual list of the world’s most livable cities,” Mayor Jyoti Gondek shared on social media.

“This marks the 11th year Calgary has ranked among the top 10 most livable cities globally, receiving top marks in education, healthcare, and stability. In 2023, Calgary welcomed a record number of newcomers — nearly 100,000 people — and Alberta emerged as the fastest-growing province in the country.”

As for the rest of the list, Vienna, Austria was #1 for the third year in a row, followed by Copenhagen, Denmark, Zurich, Switzerland, and Melbourne, Australia, respectively.

Love to see a Canadian city named alongside some of the world’s most desirable places?

Calgary wasn’t the only Northern spot on the list! According to the EIU, Vancouver is also one of the best.
