How this Canadian advocacy organization is working to solve the global hunger crisis

World hunger rates have shot up by 25% over the last three years. Now more than ever, it’s crucial for those who can help to step up and make a difference. Enter World Vision Canada – a global advocacy organization on a mission to end famine. About World Vision Canada This advocacy organization works alongside communities, governments and supporters to combat this recent spike in world hunger. Its efforts not only provide food and funds to individuals and families in need but also advocate for solving the problem at its root cause – by creating long-lasting food systems. The ‘Why’ So why is the food crisis growing? Well, we can blame it on the soaring food prices, the lingering effects of COVID-19, and the havoc climate change is wreaking on food systems. As a result, child hunger levels are the worst they’ve been in generations and nearly 50 million people are at risk of starvation. Families and children are not able to produce or purchase enough of the right food for them to eat, and unfortunately, world hunger is set to worsen in the months to come. How World Vision Canada Is Helping Now, how is World Vision Canada able to help these communities? Through 16 years of partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP), World Vision is providing food assistance to fragile communities across the globe. WFP is a worldwide humanitarian leader in fighting hunger.  Here are just a few stats showcasing the partnership’s impact:

  • 10,841 deaths were prevented through World Vision Canada’s work with WFP
  • 8,546,943 people have been helped through World Vision’s food assistance portfolio
  • 1,950,835 people have benefited from the provision of in-kind food assistance

Ensuring Funds Go To The Right Place World Vision relies on donations from Canadians like us, government support, and loyal supporters. Of the funds given to World Vision Canada during the past five years, 82.3% went directly to programs that help children and families.
