This Ontario town is a ‘world-renowned jewel’ on the shores of an archipelago

There’s a waterfront town located along the shores of Georgian bay and it’s considered a “world-renowned” jewel with a lot to offer. Here’s what to know about the lovely Ontario town of Parry Sound.

This town is a hidden gem located on the shores of the world’s largest freshwater archipelago, also known as the 30,000 islands, according to its website.

You’ll find Parry Sound about two hours north of Toronto. In 2004, UNESCO designated the area as a World Biosphere Reserve, the Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve, per the town.

But besides its wonderful location, it’s actually home to three provincial parks – Killbear Provincial Park, Oastler Lake Provincial Park and Massasauga Provincial Park.

Though there’s lots to do within those parks, the town is also know for its boating, canoeing/kayaking, and fishing activities.

And of course, if you want to stretch those legs and go for a hike, Parry Sound has you covered.

Take a stroll along the 6 km Rotary and the Algonquin Regiment Fitness Trail, which leads to the North Shore Rugged Trail.

Along the way, you can dip into the pristine waters, have a picnic at Waubuno Beach, or witness a mesmerizing sunset over Georgian Bay.

“In the summer the area swells with cottagers and visitors, who have discovered the beauty and hospitality of the region,” according to the town.

But it’s not just about the stunning landscapes and outdoor adventures here. Parry Sound is a hub of arts, culture, and heritage.

The town has a variety of festivals throughout the year and a thriving community of artists, performers, and musicians.

The Charles W. Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts, the West Parry Sound District Museum, and the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame are three must-visit attractions.
