A lakeside Ontario resort has captivating views and luxurious accommodations

In-province travel is where it’s at this summer, Ontario. If you’re looking to stay local for your next getaway, Windermere House needs to be on your radar. Nestled on the shores of Muskoka’s Lake Rosseau, this resort not only has breathtaking views, but the accommodations will have you feeling like you’ve escaped to somewhere much further.

Open since 1870, Windermere House has earned a reputation for being “Muskoka’s most prestigious hotel and resort,” over the years (and decades).

Hitting the water has to be on your list of things to do while visiting, and you can do so in the lake or the pool. The resort’s heated pool is perfect for those who prefer to lounge, while kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards are available for guests who want to venture out.

You really can’t go wrong with any suite, and there’s a room for groups of all sizes. If you’re heading to Windermere for a romantic escape, there are options for rooms fitting two to four guests (some with lake views, others with garden views). For families, the Windermere Cottage can be booked to fit up to eight people.

Windermere also has two restaurant options on-site — The Rosseau and Windermere Pub.

The Rosseau boasts an award-winning culinary team, with a focus on providing a full culinary experience. “Immerse yourself in the refined elegance of our sophisticated dining room, or on the veranda, immersed in the surrounding beauty, where every detail exudes luxury and impeccable taste,” shares The Rosseau.

If you’d rather something more laid-back, Windermere Pub is the place. Here, you can expect casual plates such as nachos, chilli, chicken tenders, pizza, chicken wings, fish tacos, burgers and desserts (cheesecake and peach cobbler — yes please).

While it’s beautiful here in the summer, the resort is open year-round. Book that in-province vacation and get relaxin’, Ontario.
