This beachside city in BC has one of the longest piers in Canada

If you’re in search of a great place to enjoy the sunset or a summer stroll in Metro Vancouver, the historic White Rock Pier is a must-visit.

Officially recognized as the “longest pier in Canada,” the White Rock Pier may not be the longest in the country technically, but it’s definitely up there – stretching 470 metres into the scenic Semiahmoo Bay.

Originally constructed in 1914 as a dock for coastal steamships, the famed pier still operates as a customs port of entry for small crafts, according to Explore White Rock. Today, the landmark is a major White Rock attraction where visitors can enjoy sweeping views of the coastal mountains and San Juan Islands.

Want to extend your stroll? There’s a waterfront promenade that runs almost the entire length of the beach!

The ‘unique wood construction’ was repaired in both 1977 and 2018, when half of the pier was damaged in a winter storm. As such, skateboarding and biking are not permitted on the pier.

Note that dogs are not permitted on the pier at any time, according to the City of White Rock.

So there you have it, Metro Vancouver! The next time you want to enjoy a post-meal walk by the beach, consider making an evening of it at this historic pier.
