Here’s what’s open and closed in Calgary on Family Day this year

The long weekend is nearly here and this time around, it’s all about spending quality time with the people you love most! Whether it be relatives, close friends, or your special someone, this upcoming stat is made for memories – which is why it’s important to know what’s going to be open and closed on Family Day Monday in Calgary this year.

Take note, adventure seekers and errand doers. Here’s what you need to know ahead of February 20th, 2023.

OPEN

MUSEUMS

Museums are a great way to get out and about this Family Day – and great news! Most Alberta-run spots will not only be open but totally FREE to check out this year.

MOVIE THEATRES

Hoping to catch a flick this Family Day? Landmark CinemasCineplex and Calgary’s cheap theatre, Canyon Meadows, will all be open all weekend long.

MALLS

Though we’d recommend checking their hours before heading out, Southcentre Mall, CrossIron MillsCF Chinook Centre, CF Market Mall and The CORE Shopping Centre will all be open on February 20th.

GROCERY & LIQUOR STORES

Need milk or beer? You’re in luck. Though (again) we’d recommend checking your local stop hours, most liquor and grocery stores will be open on holiday Monday.

THE CALGARY TOWER

Views, views and more views. After your chosen ceremony this week, check out the Calgary Tower and grab a bite to eat at Sky 360.

TELUS SPARK

They say you should learn one thing a day – why not spend some time with your kids or fun-seeking friends kids at Telus Spark on Monday afternoon?

Where: 220 St. George’s Drive NE

CALGARY TRANSIT

While transit will be operational on Monday, February 20th, CTrains, buses and On Demand transport will run on their Sunday schedule.

LANDFILL

Good news, errand-doers, the Landfill will also be open this year on Family Day. Check out their hours here.

CLOSED

CITY-OWNED RECREATIONAL FACILITIES AND LEISURE CENTRES

This Family Day Monday, most city-owned pools, as well as fitness and rec centres will be closed in lieu of the stat holiday, with the exception of the Southland and Village Square Leisure Centres.

PARKING 

As per their website, Calgary Parking Authority impound lots will be closed on Family Day this year. In addition, no payment is required for on-street parking, though holiday rates will be in effect at select parkades and select surface lots.

COSTCO

While grocery and convenience stores will be open this Friday, Costco will be unshoppable this Family Day Monday- Looks like you’ll have to get your massive hot dog fix before February 20th.
