What to know about the BC Vaccine Card launching today

Last month, the provincial government announced that a BC Vaccine Card would be coming to the province. And now, a few days later, registration has opened for residents across the province. Need a quick refresher on what to expect? That’s where we come in!

In order to register for their vaccine card, people are encouraged to visit the official government webpage to get started. If people do not have internet access, then they can call 1 833 838-2323 (the Get Vaccinated call centre) to have a printed copy mailed to them.

We think most people will opt for digital, so here’s how it works. Once verified, you can either keep a digital copy of your vaccine card or print it from home. The BC Vaccine Card will come with a personalized QR code, which businesses can scan to confirm your vaccination status alongside your personal identification. According to officials, an app will be released for businesses before these new rules go into effect.

Starting on September 13th, the new BC Vaccine Card will require everyone aged 12 and older to receive at least 1 dose of an approved COVID vaccine before taking part in a litany of services or activities. Then, on October 24th, people will need to be fully vaccinated to participate.

At the moment, the list includes:

• indoor ticketed sporting events;
• indoor concerts;
• indoor theatre/dance/symphony events;
• restaurants (indoor and patio dining);
• night clubs;
• casinos;
• movie theatres;
• fitness centres/gyms (excluding youth recreational sport);
• businesses offering indoor high-intensity group exercise activities;
• organized indoor events (eg. weddings, parties, conferences, meetings, workshops);
• discretionary organized indoor group recreational classes and activities.

In addition to residents, these requirements will extend to all travellers wishing to visit the province. The BC Vaccine Card will be in place until at least January 31st, 2022, but may be extended as needed. For more information, you can check out the official press release right here.
