While you may not have heard of Weta FX, you’ve definitely seen their work. The New Zealand-based visual effects studio is behind some of the most iconic movies of the modern age. So, their expansion in Vancouver is definitely an exciting one. Here’s a little info on it.
Founded in part by Peter Jackson, Weta FX is the studio behind all three movies in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, as well as Avatar, Godzilla vs. Kong, and even The Batman. Of course, that’s just a small selection of the movies they’ve been a part of and are continuing to work on, but hey, pretty impressive list right there.

As for the expansion to Vancouver, the CEO said that “Vancouver is an established market for VFX, Animation and Games talent and we look forward to welcoming them into the Wētā FX family.” The new office will start things off with some 75 employees, but their are already plans to grow that number before the year’s out.
