Love a good whiskey? Well, Seattle is getting some global recognition for a local distillery. Our city’s very own Westland Distillery just ranked among the best whiskies of the year for its Garryana (No. 8).

The recognition comes from Whiskey Advocate who released a list of the 20 most exciting whiskies of 2023. The list is a curated collection that deserves your notice, full of “hidden gems offering exceptional value, standout examples leading their respective styles, and superbly crafted bottles worth seeking out.”

Garryana (No. 8) came in third place with an overall score of 94, standing out for its study of Quercus garryana, an oak species native to the PNW. Its smoky and sweet notes include “charcoal grill, Krispy Kreme doughnut, Honey Nut Cheerios, and a touch of salinity.”

What’s more, out of the top 10 the only other US state with winners was Kentucky. So Westland Distillery is setting a precedent here for the PNW to become a noted destination for distillers.

At $150 a bottle it might just be a perfect last-minute Christmas gift for the whisky lover in your life.
