The temps around here might still be in their teens but that isn’t the case with some BC towns and villages. In fact, it’s officially beach-going, lake-dipping and wine-sipping season in some parts of BC. And these happen to be the best places for the perfect weekend getaways from Vancouver… as is the case with Naramata.

This village along the southeast shore of Okanagan Lake is a not-so-hidden gem. With incredible views, unlimited wine, local culinary adventures and tons more, the place is quite literally an all-reason, all-season weekend getaway.

For anyone looking to replace the city chaos with peaceful, natural surroundings, Naramata is the place to be. And below are 7 wonderful experiences in Naramata that are unmissable!

The Perfect Stay

Truth be told, a stay at Sandy Beach Lodge & Resort should be your primary reason to visit Naramata. Whether you want a lazy escape or a weekend full of fun activities, this family-friendly resort has you covered. You can either choose one of 6 lodge guest rooms each with a private veranda and stunning lake views or opt for one of 13 2-bedroom cottages each with a kitchen, a fireplace, a large deck with barbeque and of course, the views. Plus, with the Naramata General Store nearby, you need not leave the village to stock up your kitchen with staples, local wines, to-go foods and more.

The resort also features a seasonal outdoor pool, a hot tub and a tennis court. But the absolute best part is the 400 feet of sandy beachfront. A stay here is in itself one of the best weekend getaways from Vancouver there is.

Wineries Galore

When thinking of weekend getaways from Vancouver, the BC wine country is always a top choice. And the Naramata Bench happens to be in the very heart of wine country. Unsurprisingly, it has over 40 wineries within a 20-minute drive. Of course, wineries are on the itinerary.  The wineries here boast incredible world-class wine and unreal views and each has a unique personality. Take, for example, the sparkling wines from  Bella Wines that will put you in an instantly bubbly mood and the oldest Canadian Syrah vines at Nichol Vineyard will ground you to your roots.

Other top picks that are worth a visit include La Frenz Winery, Lake Breeze Vineyards, Roche Wines, Tightrope Winery and Kettle Valley Winery. Oh, and be sure to hit up Poplar Grove Cheese.  They produce quality cheese using traditional methods. Choose from their Tiger Blue, Double Cream Camembert, the Naramata Bench Blue, or their Harvest Moon.

Destination Distillery (& Brewery)

Yes, the wines here are the star bevy but if you need a break from all that wine-ing, there are two delightful destinations worth checking out. The first, Legend Distilling, beckons with its locally inspired and handmade artisanal spirits. This is where you can relish carefully crafted gins, vodka, whiskeys and delightful cocktails.

The second is the Abandoned Rail Brewing Co. which is a must-visit, beer enthusiast or not. From IPAs to ales to pilsners to lagers, the local craft brewery with its German Certified Brewmaster serves up a diverse selection of flavorful craft beers.

And last, if you’re more of a Cider fanatic, then you gotta check out our top pick La Petite Abeille Cider. Each cider reflects the unique flavours and personality of the Okanagan Valley.

Brews, Breakfasts & Brunches

If your idea of a perfect day includes opening it with a smell of a delicious cuppa joe and a light bake or a hearty breakfast or brunch, Naramata has you covered. The place boasts adorable boutique cafes and bake shops.

If you’re looking for some unforgettable coffee and scrumptious breakfast sandwiches, hit up Wayne & Freda (in Penticton). Or head to Just Baked for a crumbly scone or one of their many irresistible sweet treats. Or if you’re looking for a big brunch or to-go meals, The Bench Market might be the place for you.

Resto Vibes

Naramata not only captivates with its bevies and bakes but also tantalizes taste buds with its vibrant culinary scene. The village offers a diverse range of farm-to-table dining experiences showcasing the region’s bountiful produce. Simply put, you’ll be treated to a gastronomic journey that perfectly complements the area’s liquid delights. Our top restaurant picks include THE BISTRO at Hillside Winery, The Patio At Lake Breeze, The Restaurant at Naramata Inn, The Grape Leaf Cafe and Real Things Pizza.

Trail Exploration

The place offers a bunch of activities for every season to explore the breathtaking outdoors. Think hiking, biking, mountain biking, and more. But whether or not you are an activity enthusiast, the historic KVR Trail is one that cannot be missed. The scenic trail with spectacular 180-degree views overlooking vineyards, orchards and Okanagan Lake is a unique experience. A favourite spot to rest and take it all in is the Little Tunnel. Bring your camera.

Lake Life

Given that the village sits on the shore of Okanagan Lake, it also offers a ton of activities in and on the water. You can pick a water sport, based on your thrill level. You can stand up paddle board, windsurf, kayak, boat and fish in the warm water here. Visit Sun n’ Sup Paddleboard Shop to rent a SUP for the day. Or simply lay on the beach with your favourite book, and take occasional dips and swims in the lake.
