This Ontario burger spot is so popular it has its own bridge across a highway

Many locals know that no trip to cottage country is complete without a pit-stop at Webers. This burger joint has become so popular over the years that it has its own pedestrian bridge to accommodate its hungry customers.

This spot is known for its mouthwatering burgers, crispy fries, hot dogs, milkshakes, and more.

Webers always has a long lineup in the summer and is now locally famous. But, it has a humble and fascinating backstory.

Way back in 1963, Webers opened to the public. It was a low-key little spot off of Highway 11, just north of Orillia — until word got around about just how delicious their burgers are.

Fast forward to 1981 and business is booming! So much so, that the Ministry of Transportation had to build a chain-link fence to stop tens of thousands of customers from hopping the highway barrier.

As the restaurant gained even more popularity, Webers acquired a portion of the pedestrian bridge of the CN Tower (yes, you read that right!), to build the first and only privately owned bridge built over a public highway in Ontario.

That was back in 1983, and that same bridge is crossed by countless customers every summer to this day.

A few years later, Webers bought up three CN railway cars, which they converted into a modern meat processing facility to produce their hamburgers fresh daily for their customers.

They claim to use the highest quality Canadian beef. Which is definitely part of the reason why they taste so good.

So, the next time you’re waiting in line for a juicy burger at Webers, you’ll know the backstory of this famous place.

And if you’ve never been, this is definitely your sign to hit the road and give it a try!
