The weather forecast in Alberta has been bleak, but Mother Nature is about to put a pep back in our step.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, Wild Rose Country is in for quite the treat – one that may allow you to enjoy going outdoors again.

Here’s how much it costs to rent in Alberta’s biggest cities right now
“We’re still under the influence of a pretty stubborn surface ridge which has sort of been the bane of our existence the last week or so,” Justin Shelley, a meteorologist with ECCC told Curiocity.
“We’re finally going to see that cold ridge moving off to the east early next week and that’s what’s going to allow for some temperature moderation in the area.”
This, of course, is great news, but don’t jump for joy just yet!
According to Shelley, this will happen gradually and stagger across the province.
If you’re among those who live in Calgary, expect to feel temperatures slowly increase over the weekend and then finally surpass zero on Tuesday, January 23rd.
Edmonton will also warm up over the coming days, but won’t jump as far or quickly as Calgary.
While single digits above freezing are expected for Friday, snow and -10°C will kick off next week.
Luckily, after we ride this out – Albertans will be encouraged to get comfortable.
“This is the coldest it’s going to be for the foreseeable future,” he added.
“In terms of the daytime highs, we’re still going to be relatively below normal probably until Tuesday, then Wednsday onward we’re looking at a couple of degrees above zero and that looks like it’s actually going to persist into next weekend and possibly through the rest of the month.”
Unfortunately, this doesn’t mean we’re ALL out of the woods completely.
This Sunday, towns between Calgary and Edmonton could see anywhere between 5 and 10 centimetres of snow, so drive safely and be ready for anything.
As always, we’ll keep you updated as things continue to change, but get excited Alberta.
The forecast is looking up and we hope you are too!
