It’s not everyday a place in Washington gets called one of the “world’s greatest places.” And TIME has done just that, naming a local luxury camping destination one of the “2024 World’s Greatest Places.”
In its latest list, TIME says it solicited nominations of places that include hotels, cruises, restaurants, attractions, museums, parks, and more, all from its international network of correspondents and contributors, as well as through an application process, “with an eye toward those offering new and exciting experiences.”
Last year, the magazine had featured 50 cities, so this is has been a new list for them. Think of it as “100 extraordinary destinations to visit and stay this year.”
And a spot on the Long Beach Peninsula has made the list under “Places to Stay.”
If you haven’t heard of Snow Peak Long Beach Campfield, it may be because it is quite new, having just opened this year.
We covered it earlier this month, as a new Washington campground nestled among 25 acres on the Long Beach Peninsula, and being the first of its kind in the United States. While Snow Peak Long Beach Campfield just opened its first location here, it has other locations in Japan and has been operating there since 2011.

The new four-season campground is mean to offer “a reimagined outdoor experience with thoughtfully designed spaces to slow down, connect with one another, and be with nature.”
Besides its camp sites, TIME writes about the natural beauty and recreational opportunities at Snow Peak, which includehiking, whale-watching, kayaking, and crabbing. It also mentions the site’s Japanese-style spa.
“Though the water temperature rarely rises above a frigid 68° F, campers can cozy up in the Japanese-style Ofuro Spa, built from sustainably harvested Japanese cypress, or opt to stay in one of 14 climate-controlled Jyubako micro-cabins, designed by architect Kengo Kuma,” it states.
Snow Peak Long Beach Campfield is among some epic places globally on this list.
Other spots on TIME’s 2024 World’s Greatest Places (Places to Stay) include:
- White Desert, Antarctica
- Angama Amboseli, Kimana Sanctuary, Kenya
- Highland Base, Kerlingarfjoll, Iceland
- Anantara Convento di Amalfi Grand Hotel, Amalfi, Italy
- Belmond’s Eastern & Oriental Express, Malaysia
- Sinchi Wayra, Yasuní National Park, Ecuador
