Winter may be a prime time for staying indoors and enjoying the warmth. However, three Washington towns are calling to you as they have ranked among the best-underrated winter destinations in the US, according to a new list.

The travel website, FamilyDestinationsGuide.com, sought to highlight “underrated winter getaways for families” by surveying 3,000 experienced travelers. All in all, the hope was to encourage people to “explore beyond the usual and experience the diverse beauty America holds.”

Washington has over 120 ‘sno-parks’ that are open for the season

While most annual rankings highlight warm destinations like Hawaii and Florida, this ranking had some unique deviations, including Washington.

These are the top 10 underrated winter destinations in the US:

  1. Wyoming – Buffalo
  2. Florida – High Springs
  3. Colorado – Creede
  4. Alaska – Tok
  5. Michigan – Frankenmuth
  6. Hawaii – Waimea Town, Kauai
  7. Nebraska – Ashland
  8. Missouri – Arrow Rock
  9. Wisconsin – Mineral Point
  10. Florida – Cedar Key

As you can see, no Washington mentions in the top 10. That being said, Coupeville came in 15th, Leavenworth in 113th, and Port Townsend in 133rd. The three are the perfect mix of island experience, waterfront charm, and European influence. It’s easy to see why they were selected and a great reminder of all the places to check out this winter.
