Three Washington drives rank among best in US for seeing fall foliage

It’s no secret that Washington is beautiful and while the transition to fall may not be everyone’s favorite, it is certainly an excuse to get outside. Especially because three Washington drives just ranked among the nations most scenic for witnessing fall foliage. Here’s what made the cut.

An unsuspecting source, Gunther VW Coconut Creek, ran a survey of 3,000 respondents, asking each to rate their favorite driving routes for witnessing fall foliage. As you may have guessed, drives in the Northeastern states dominated the list but Washington still made the cut.

The top 10 fall foliage freeways are as follows:

  1. Seneca Trail US Route 219, West Virginia
  2. Falls Road (MD Route 25), Maryland
  3. Allegheny Scenic Drive, Pennsylvania
  4. Cherokee Foothills Scenic Byway, South Carolina
  5. Rim Rock Drive, Colorado
  6. Red River Gorge Scenic Byway, Kentucky
  7. Back of the Dragon (Route 16), Virginia
  8. Chesapeake Country Scenic Byway, Maryland
  9. Mount Hope Bay Loop, Rhode Island
  10. Circle Road Nebraska National Forest, Nebraska

As you can see, no Washington in the top 10. That being said, Washington’s Snoqualmie Pass Scenic Byway did come in 27th as did the North Cascades Highway in 100th and also the Methow Valley in 122nd. Keep in mind, this list had 140 inclusions to making it in the top 30 really isn’t too bad!

So what are you waiting for? Grab your keys and hit the open Washington road.
