This quaint village in Ontario has Canada’s largest year-round farmers’ market

If you want to go on a scenic day trip and knock out some errands while you’re at it, then you have to hit up the adorable Village of St. Jacobs, located in the Township of Woolwich.

Steeped in rich Mennonite heritage, St. Jacobs is home to the largest population of Old Order Mennonites in Canada, according to the St. Jacobs Market.

In fact, you’ll often see farmers on local roads traveling on horse and buggy!

But, the main attraction for locals and visitors is the St. Jacobs farmers’ market, which is the largest year-round market of its kind in the whole country, the town says.

Here you’ll find a huge variety of farm-fresh products, art, and collectibles made by local artisans.

There are 200 vendors inside and an additional 200 farmers, producers, artisans, and retailers outside.

You can also pick up all kinds of goodies at the roadside stands located throughout the town.

Don’t forget to hit up Market Road Antiques for unique finds and the St. Jacobs Outlets for more deals.

There are plenty of other things to do in the Village of St. Jacobs besides shop, although that is definitely a big part of the fun.

The town has a thriving performing arts scene and you can catch a show at one of the theatres — Drayton Entertainment’s St. Jacobs Country Playhouse or the St. Jacobs Schoolhouse Theatre.

There are also fantastic restaurants and scenic tours, such as the Waterloo Central Railway Heritage Hopper train.

Not far from St. Jacobs are the picturesque towns of Elora and Fergus, so you can hit three destinations in one day, or weekend!

So, pick a crisp autumn day and hit the road because this is an excursion worth taking.
