Ontario has its own Vienna & it’s a charming historic village

You don’t need a passport for this trip to Austria. The charming village of Vienna is a hidden gem on the banks of the Big Otter Creek in Ontario.

This picturesque town might be described as “a blink of a town,” but it has a rich history dating back to 1811, says Elgin County Tourism.

One of Vienna’s proudest claims to fame is being the birthplace of one of the Grandfathers of Thomas Alva Edison — yes, the one and only Thomas Edison!

There’s even a summer festival in the village called Edison Fest.

To get a glimpse into the fascinating history of this town and its connection to Edison, be sure to visit the Edison Museum. It’s a delightful journey through time.

For those with an adventurous spirit, Vienna has more to offer than just its historical charm.

The Otter Be Here canoe and kayak port is the perfect place to start exploring the meandering sandy bottom of the Big Otter Creek.

Imagine paddling through the same waters that were once used to float logs down to Lake Erie, destined for Europe.

It’s a unique way to connect with nature and the area’s rich past.

Vienna is one of the many picturesque villages in the Municipality of Bayham.
