Love a summer paddling adventure? BC’s Vargas Island should be at the top of your list, as the popular wilderness park has exceptional opportunities for swimming, paddling, kayaking, beach hiking, and wildlife viewing.
Situated near Tofino, the provincial park is a prime spot for wilderness camping, with designated campsites as well as backcountry spots. The former provides campers with pit toilets and food cache facilities, which are accessible year-round.
Those who are up for more of an adventure can camp at one of the park’s many sandy beaches, where they’ll find a rugged coastline, sheltered bays, an intertidal lagoon, and ancient sand ‘berms’ – or crescent-shaped dunes indicating previous sea levels.
Visitors can check out these berms along the historic telegraph trail, according to BC Parks.
