Vancouver’s beached barge is going to hang around a while longer

Know how last week we said that Sunday would be the final day for the barge stuck on Sunset Beach? Turns out, we were bamboozled! According to an update from the company that owns the barge, it’ll be hanging out in its current (and luxurious) beachfront locale for two more weeks. Here’s why.

In a statement sent to CTV News, Sentry Marine (the company that owns the barge) said it was going to wait until the next King Tide, on December 6th, to try and remove it. This is because when the barge was initially stranded, the tide was sitting at just under 15 feet, making it more or less unreachable during a normal high tide in Vancouver.

So instead, they’re hoping that the next King Tide, projected to reach around 16 feet, will be enough to get it out of there. Luckily, the barge was empty when it ran aground, and poses no environmental threat while it’s sitting there. So really, it’s just a very weird art installation right now.

And you’ve got a couple more weeks to check it out! Bonus points if you can come up with a caption that hasn’t already been done, since the barge has been the focus of quite a few hot takes on social media.
