Choo Choo! This little red caboose is one of the GTA’s cheapest listings

Looking to buy in the GTA can be a bit disparaging but what if we told you that you could own a home (of sorts) for $45k? Inconceivable right? Well, a retired and refurbished train caboose is one of the cheapest listings in the GTA at the moment and it could be yours.

So what exactly is the deal with this little red caboose? Basically, it was built in 1912, refurbished in 2009, and has been in its current location since 1989. It’s had many lives as a caboose, an ice cream shop, and most recently, an office. And if you choose to buy it, you can add another chapter to its story.

Here’s the catch. Speaking to CTV, realtor Jennifer Krane says the GTA caboose isn’t recommended for residential use because it doesn’t have running water or a bathroom. But that could be changed if the new owner installed sewage lines and holding tanks. It’s also worth mentioning that the train currently sits on leased land which costs $400 a month so the new owner will also probably want to move it.

With all this in mind, the caboose is a great blank slate for someone looking to get creative with a unique structure. Us it as a studio in your back yard, a tiny home, or try to return it to its original nature and pretend you’re a conductor in your spare time. Whatever you choose to do, it doesn’t get much cooler than this little red caboose.
