Vancouver is among the world’s happiest holiday hotspots

Call us biased, but we think Vancouver is a pretty neat place to visit. While every city has its shortcomings, it’s not often that you come across a coastal destination that’s also at the helm of incredible mountain adventures, ancient forests, and a number of island stays. And it looks like despite its general unaffordability, tourists are largely able to enjoy all that Vancouver has to offer.

In fact, the Travel Insurance experts at InsureandGo ranked the 25 ‘happiest holiday hotspots’ around the world, and our city landed in the top five!

The company took a sample of photos from three iconic tourist attractions found in 100 popular holiday destinations across the globe, putting them through a facial analysis tool to get a ‘smile score.’

Once those were averaged out and compared for each destination, a list of the spots prompting the ‘biggest smiles’ was created.

Revered for its scenic views, mild climate, and friendly people, Vancouver snags the #4 spot on the list, according to the report.

Out of all the destinations looked at, travel spots in the UK and Australia dominated the list, with the Lake District in the UK taking the cake at the #1 spot.

Here are the top 25 happiest holiday hotspots, according to InsureandGo:

  1. Lake District, UK
  2. Lofoten, Norway
  3. Queenstown, New Zealand
  4.  Vancouver, BC
  5. Gold Coast, Australia
  6. Hong Kong, China
  7. Isle of Skye, UK
  8. Panama City, Panama
  9. Wellington, New Zealand
  10. New Forest, UK
  11. County Kerry, Ireland
  12. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
  13. Palawan, Philippines
  14. Lisbon, Portugal
  15. Barcelona, Spain
  16. Cornwall, UK
  17. Playa del Carmen, Mexico
  18. New York City, USA
  19. Istanbul, Turkey
  20. Phuket, Thailand
  21. Rovaniemi, Finland
  22. Nashville, USA
  23. Byron Bay, Australia
  24. Adelaide, Australia
