Hold on to your hats: Vancouver is under a wind warning & here’s what to expect

If you were thinking of skipping the scarf or hat today on account of the sunshine, think again. A wind warning has been issued for Metro Vancouver, and it looks like we’re in for an interesting day.

According to Environment Canada, a “strong pressure gradient” and “unstable airmass” have joined forces, bringing winds of 70 to 90 km/hour from the northwest to the south coast of BC. In other words, expect fairly strong winds and possible damage to your roof and windows this afternoon.

Metro Vancouver residents can anticipate peak winds in the late afternoon and early evening of Monday, February 13th.

The wind warning is currently in effect for the following areas:

  • City of Vancouver, Burnaby, and New West
  • North Shore
  • Surrey and Langley
  • Richmond and Delta

Winds should ease tonight, according to the warning, hopefully minimizing the chances and impact of fallen trees and outages.

As for the rest of the week, Environment Canada forecasts a mix of sun, clouds, and showers. On Monday afternoon, there is a 40% chance of rain, followed by a clear, sunny day on Tuesday, February 14th, and overcast weather until the weekend.

On Saturday, February 18th, Raincouver is set to make an official reappearance, with a 60% chance of showers on Saturday and Sunday.

So, once we weather the windstorm, it’s time to soak up as much sunshine as we can.

Stay safe, Vancouver!
