Vancouver is under a special weather statement ahead of an “unseasonably hot” weekend

Well, Vancouver. It’s about to get hot in here. So hot in fact that Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the city.

According to Environment Canada, “unseasonably hot weather will develop over coastal BC beginning Friday.” Their timeline states that the heat will remain until Tuesday.

“The South Coast and inland areas of the north and central BC coast will experience unseasonably hot weather beginning on Friday. The highest temperatures are expected on Sunday and Monday,” states the weather agency.

The daytime highs will be 10°C to 15°C above seasonal.

In Vancouver, the high for Sunday and Monday will be 26°C, but inland that will be more like 31°C and 34°C respectively.

The weather statement said that the heat may break temperature records this weekend.

“While the developing heat may result in daily temperature records being broken, it must be emphasized that the expected hot conditions will not approach those reached during the ‘Heat Dome’ of late June 2021,” it added. “With elevated temperatures, the risk of heat related illnesses will increase.”

In addition to the heat, there will be clear skies, so not a lot of breaks from direct sun.

By Wednesday next week, the temperature will drop to 23°C, under a mix of sun and clouds.

For now, and in prep for the summer ahead, be sure to stay hydrated out there, stay in the shade when you can, and pack that sunscreen, Vancouver!
