Vancouver will soon have its first 5 p.m. sunset of the year

Vancouver’s first 5 p.m. sunset of the year is coming up before the end of January. It might not feel like much, but it’s a start!

As the days continue to get longer and longer, the countdown to later sunsets and the start of spring begins.

According to Time and Date, the sun will set at 4:59 p.m. on Jan. 26 and at 5:01 p.m. on Jan. 27, 2026, so mark your calendars, and let’s hope for clear skies.

The Winter Solstice on Dec. 21, 2025, marked the shortest day of the year, with a sunrise time of 8:05 a.m. and a sunset time of 4:16 p.m. With that behind us, we can look forward to a couple of minutes more of sunlight with each passing day.

By the last day of January, the sun will set at 5:07 p.m., with 6 p.m. sunsets beginning in early March.

Once Daylight Saving Time officially starts on Sunday, March 8, 2026, we will spring forward an hour, which means the sun will set at 7:07 p.m. and later.

Here’s to all the longer, brighter days ahead, Vancouver.
